Ringling College Calm Strips

This project focuses on the design and implementation of Calm Strips at Ringling College, a tactile and visual tool intended to support focus, stress relief, and sensory engagement for students. Designed as an accessible intervention within shared spaces, Calm Strips provide a simple yet effective way to promote well-being and improve the overall student experience.

My goal was to create a design that feels both functional and inviting, encouraging interaction while maintaining a sense of subtlety within the environment. I considered how students engage with space during moments of stress or distraction, and aimed to develop a solution that integrates seamlessly into their daily routines without being disruptive.

In approaching this project, I focused on user-centered design principles, thinking about accessibility, placement, and usability. The design needed to be intuitive and inclusive, supporting a wide range of users while remaining visually cohesive with its surroundings.

This project allowed me to explore how small-scale design interventions can have a meaningful impact on user experience. It strengthened my understanding of designing for well-being, accessibility, and real-world application, emphasizing how thoughtful design can support both functionality and human needs.
