Ladybird Motion
Design sequence
This project was created during my freshman year for a 4D design course, where the assignment was to develop a motion graphics sequence inspired by a film or series. I chose Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig, because of my appreciation for her storytelling and the film’s exploration of identity, relationships, and growing up.
My goal was to translate the emotional tone and narrative themes of the film into a visual motion piece. I focused on capturing the coming-of-age atmosphere through pacing, composition, and transitions, thinking about how movement and timing could reflect the film’s shifts between humor, tension, and introspection.
Using Adobe After Effects, I experimented with animation, sequencing, and visual rhythm to build a cohesive motion design. This project served as an introduction to the software and pushed me to learn new technical skills while also considering how motion can enhance storytelling.
Through this process, I began to explore how design extends beyond static visuals, using time and movement as tools to communicate narrative and emotion.
Story in Motion
This piece reinterprets Lady Bird through animation, using timing, composition, and movement to reflect the film’s emotional shifts and narrative voice.
