Olivia Rodrigo
x dr. martens
For this project in Graphic Design 05, I explored how an existing brand could be reimagined through a collaborative product concept. I developed a limited-edition Dr. Martens x Olivia Rodrigo collection, using the visual language of lace, femininity, and romantic detailing to create a packaging system that still felt connected to the bold, utilitarian identity of Dr. Martens.
The project pushed me to think beyond individual graphics and consider how a visual identity translates across a complete brand experience. I developed packaging concepts including a shoebox and shopping bag, as well as promotional applications such as a billboard and apparel. I focused on creating consistency across each touchpoint through a restrained black-and-charcoal palette, lace-inspired patterning, and metallic silver typography.
A major part of the process was learning how to use mockups and image-generation tools to visualize the designs as physical products. Rather than treating the mockups as an afterthought, I used them to evaluate how the materials, proportions, finishes, and branding would actually exist in the real world. Experimenting with embossed and metallic finishes particularly helped me understand how subtle changes in material can affect the perceived quality of a package.
This project strengthened my ability to develop a concept across multiple applications while maintaining a cohesive visual system. It also taught me to be more critical of realism in presentation—considering details like scale, perspective, material, lighting, and physical construction rather than focusing solely on the graphic design itself.
